SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Aug. 29, 2011 — It’s the first week of fall classes at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., and freshman Matthew Grega has success on his radar. The Aeronautical Engineering student received the 2011 Angel MedFlight Scholarship for Excellence in Aviation, which includes $3,000 toward tuition and a commemorative plaque.
“Matthew is an exemplary student who goes above and beyond to succeed in the classroom,” stated Angel MedFlight President and CEO Jeremy Freer. “His involvement in academic and extracurricular activities illustrates his commitment to education and growth, and we are confident that he will help shape the future of aviation. We are pleased to award the 2011 Scholarship for Excellence in Aviation to such an exceptional student.”
Angel MedFlight, an innovator in worldwide air medical transportation, sponsors the scholarship in conjunction with the Arizona Business Aviation Association (AZBAA) to promote leadership and resourcefulness in Arizona aviation students. The AZBAA is a non-profit organization that provides local lobby, education and support activities to advance the interests of business aviation growth and well-being in Arizona.
This is the second year that Angel MedFlight has offered the scholarship. Andrew Cochran, an Aeronautical Science Dean’s List student at Embry-Riddle, received the 2010 scholarship.
A National Honor Society member, Grega graduated from Horizon High School in Scottsdale, Ariz. with a 3.80 grade point average. As a senior on the Husky boys’ lacrosse team, he earned the Wendy’s® High School Heisman for his outstanding play. He is a participant in the U.S. Air Force ROTC program, and his career goals include designing fighter jets.
