Clear skies on Philadelphia approach
The skies were clear when Angel MedFlight crews safely transported a patient from Rochester, N.Y. to Philadelphia on Dec. 24.

But the storm was looming, and cloudless skies soon gave way to the season’s first major winter storm. High winds and snowfall hammered the Philadelphia area, dumping more than a foot of snow on Philadelphia International Airport, and leaving more than 1,200 passengers stranded there overnight.
Winter storm wreaks havoc on Philadelphia travel
Skies cleared on Monday morning, but an additional 200 flights out of Philadelphia International Airport were canceled due to high winds and drifting snow. The National Weather Service was forecasting winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, through Monday evening.
Angel MedFlight medical and flight crews are among those waiting out the storm.
“We’re just happy we were able to transport our patient safely to Philadelphia before the winter storm broke,” Angel MedFlight critical care flight paramedic Edward Mutzl said.

The winter weather has paralyzed travel along the eastern seaboard; more than 2,000 flights have been canceled, and travelers could be stranded for days as New York and Boston airports work to re-route thousands of stranded passengers.
