Our highly experienced medical personnel undergo a rigorous initial orientation and uphold stringent continuing education and training requirements on an annual basis.  They are well-trained and provide the highest standard of patient care.  We know patients are well cared for, but what if something happened to an employee at Angel MedFlight Headquarters?

We now have an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) in the office so Angel MedFlight’s Director of Clinical Education, Matt Greenwell, decided that all employees should know how to use it in case of emergency. If someone goes into cardiac arrest, current guidelines recommend immediate electrical defibrillation.  A common cause of sudden cardiac arrest is ventricular fibrillation, a disturbance in the heart rhythm that cuts off blood supply to the brain and other vital organs.  It can be treated by applying an electric shock to the chest with a defibrillator or AED.

But researchers now say chest compressions prior to defibrillation are just as good as immediate treatment with AED for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. For this reason, the entire staff also received Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training.  If someone stops breathing or his or her blood is not circulating adequately, permanent brain damage can happen quickly. CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain until defibrillation can be performed.

After completing the training all employees received an American Safety & Health Institute approved Certification Card for CPR and AED for the Community and Workplace.  The card is to show that everyone successfully completed and competently performed the required knowledge and skill objectives for: Adult CPR AED, Child CPR AED and Infant CPR.
